Genta Appoints Pharmaceutical Industry Veteran, Peter T. Tattle, to its Board of Directors

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - December 17, 2003 - Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA) today announced the appointment of Mr. Peter T. Tattle to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Tattle retired after a long career at Johnson & Johnson as Company Group Chairman for Pharmaceuticals in the Americas.

Mr. Tattle's 36- year tenure at Johnson & Johnson spanned positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing and product management, both domestically and internationally. He began as a sales representative in 1965 for Ortho Pharmaceutical Canada and advanced to Vice President of the Canadian pharmaceutical business. In 1978, Mr. Tattle moved to New Jersey to lead Sales and Product Management for Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation as Executive Director, eventually becoming Group Vice President of that business. In 1984, he moved to England to assume the role of Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson's pharmaceutical business in the United Kingdom. In 1987, Mr. Tattle was appointed International Vice President to lead the Cilag Pharmaceutical companies worldwide, and in 1989 was named President of that organization. From 1991 until his retirement in 2001, Mr. Tattle served as Group Chairman of Johnson & Johnson's Pharmaceuticals business in the Americas. Among other responsibilities, Mr. Tattle currently serves on the boards of Xanthus Life Sciences Inc., DFB Pharmaceuticals Inc., Catalina Marketing Corporation, and The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Mr. Tattle replaces Mr. Patrick Zenner who has resigned from Genta's Board of Directors.
